They were probably hoping you'd give up & sign up for a current version instead. Office 2007 is not supported on Windows 10. I suspect that MS were trying to bamboozle you. It works correctly in all respects - as do the Office 2007 installations on all my other Windows 10 computers.
I installed Office 2007 on a new Windows 10 computer last October and it activated without any issues or any need to call MS.
